The "Salina" Salt Mine in Targu-Ocna

The “ Salina ” salt mine is 240 meters (787 feet) deep, and after a 3.2 kilometer (2 mile) drive you reach a place that God can access as well.  The Saint Varvara Orthodox church is the only church in Europe that is inside the salt mine portion of a mountain.
The “ Salina ” salt mine is located in the heart of the Moldova region of Romania in the picturesque Trotus river valley, within the limits of the national tourist resort Targu Ocna, Bacau county.  The main function of the mine is to extract, prepare, and market salt, but it is also a hot spot for tourists.  The new and modern treatment area, located on Level IX of the “ Salina ” salt mine, offers tourists the opportunity to relax and fine treatments for various respiratory ailments such as asthma or bronchitis.  In addition to all of this the mine also offers a wonderful location to purify the soul in the Saint Varvara Orthodox Church.

 

Salt mine entrance fee:

Adults: 18 ron

Children up to 14 years: 9 ron

Multi day passes are also available (minimum of 5 days required):

Adults: 16 ron a day

Children: 8 ron a day
